FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Fire managers will be igniting piles in the Walker Hill and Kendrick Park area today, which will produce noticeable smoke to those in and around Flagstaff.
Walker Hill Project
- Date: Monday, Sep. 28, 2026.
- Size: 725 acres.
- Location: 2 miles north of Bellemont.
- Predicted Smoke Impacts: Predicted smoke impacts to the local area including Forest roads 171 and 222 during ignitions. Light impacts to surrounding communities including Brannigan Park, Bellemont and I-40 overnight.
Kendrick Park Project
- Date: Monday, Sep. 28, 2026.
- Size: 17 acres.
- Location: 15 miles northwest of Flagstaff in Kendrick Park.
- Predicted Smoke Impacts: Light smoke impact to Kendrick Park during ignitions. Light smoke impacts to U.S. Highway 180 and Kendrick Park overnight.
Prescribed burns are always dependent upon multiple conditions, including personnel availability, fuel conditions, weather and approval from the Arizona Department of Environment Quality. Prescribed burns may be changed or canceled last-minute if burn conditions do not meet criteria outlined in advance.
