Coconino County Superintendent of Schools seeks applicants for Williams Unified School District Governing Board

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Mango-Paget is seeking qualified community members interested in serving on the Williams Unified School District #2 Governing Board for a two-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2027, and ending Dec. 31, 2028.

The appointment will fill the remaining two years of the unexpired term of former Governing Board member Jenni Rigo, who resigned in September 2026. Following her resignation, Superintendent Mango-Paget appointed Renee Hatch to serve through Dec. 31, 2026, ensuring continuity of board operations. Hatch was separately deemed elected to a four-year governing board term beginning Jan. 1, 2027, following an uncontested election process. The Superintendent of Schools Office is now accepting applications to fill the remaining two years of Rigo’s term, from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2028.

School governing boards play a vital role in shaping the future of public education. Board members establish district policies, approve budgets, oversee the district superintendent and make decisions that directly influence educational opportunities and student success. Serving on a governing board offers community members an opportunity to help shape the future of their schools and make a lasting difference for students and families.

“Strong schools and thriving communities go hand in hand, and effective school governance is essential to both,” Superintendent Mango-Paget said. “Governing board members help shape the educational experiences and opportunities available to our children. I encourage Williams residents who care about students, value public education and want to make a positive difference to consider serving.”

To qualify for appointment, applicants must:

  • Be registered voters in Arizona.
  • Have resided within the Williams Unified School District boundaries for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
  • Not be employed by Williams Unified School District or have a spouse employed by the district.

Applications must be received by Friday, Nov. 13, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Qualified applicants will be considered through the Superintendent of Schools appointment process, with interviews anticipated following the application deadline. The selected applicant will serve from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2028, completing the remainder of the unexpired governing board term.
