FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff is proud to announce the launch of the Wildfire Resilient Homes Initiative (WRHI), a collaboration between the Flagstaff Fire Department and the Flagstaff Sustainability Office aimed at helping residents protect their homes and neighborhoods from the threat of wildfire.
Through WRHI, homeowners, renters, and property managers can take simple, effective steps to reduce wildfire risk with support from three program offerings:
- Free Home Assessments: On-site evaluations conducted by trained professionals to identify vulnerabilities and provide science-based recommendations proven to reduce risk of structure loss during a wildfire.
- Wildfire Resilience Kits: Participants receive a free kit with tools including gloves, loppers, gutter cleaning hose attachment, trash bags for pine needles, a collapsible rake, vent screening, and a Wildfire Action Guide to help them take immediate action.
- Grants: Eligible residents can receive up to $600 in assistance to help remove flammable materials within the critical 0–5 foot Home Ignition Zone. Priority is given to those facing financial or physical barriers to mitigation.
Flagstaff’s location within a fire-adapted ponderosa pine forest makes wildfire an ongoing reality. While large-scale forest restoration continue, WRHI bridges a critical gap by empowering residents to take meaningful home-level action that enhances community resilience. Together, we can make Flagstaff wildfire resilient – one home at a time.
All Flagstaff residents are encouraged to schedule a free home assessment by visiting the online booking page or by calling (928) 326-4419.
