FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — The City of Flagstaff in partnership with Mountain Line and their contractor, Kinney Construction Services, are proud to announce the completion of pedestrian crossing improvements in multiple locations along Soliere Avenue as part of the First Mile Last Mile Initiative. This initiative is a partnership between Mountain Line and the City to create safer pedestrian crossings at transit stops throughout the City, funded with a $5.5M Federal Transit Administration grant and approximately $1.4M in local match provided by the City’s local transportation tax.
First Mile Last Mile projects are important because they improve access to transit service and solve one of the biggest barriers to using public transportation: getting from a person’s starting point to the transit stop (first mile) and from the final transit stop to their destination (last mile). Most of these crossings feature a pedestrian refuge median, meaning pedestrians will only need to cross one lane of traffic at a time.
Thank you for supporting this important work to increase pedestrian safety in our City. For questions or additional information, visit the Project Webpage at connect.flagstaffaz.gov/first-mile-last-mile-pedestrian-improvements or call the Project Hotline at (928) 255-5153.
