City to host community discussion on future Montalvo STEM Education Community Center

FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff will host a community meeting on Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. to gather input and feedback from the public on the future Montalvo Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Community Center. The meeting will be held at the Aquaplex (1702 N Fourth St).

During the meeting, City staff will seek input on the concept design and design values held by the public to inform the design process that will start in the coming months. Future use ideas for the facility will also be discussed. Design professionals, building representatives and City staff will be present to answer questions and gather feedback.

Discussions about a future STEM facility started in 2020 and a former fire station adjacent to the Joel Montalvo baseball complex was identified as a potential site (2230 E. Spruce Ave). After completion of a facility concept plan and building analysis, the former fire station was demolished to make way for the new STEM facility. Funding for this project was secured through the American Rescue Plan Act revenue replacement fund. A site plan for the facility has been completed and in March 2025, the Flagstaff City Council approved a Design-Build Services Agreement with Loven Contracting, Inc.
