City of Flagstaff lifts fire restrictions

FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff will lift current firerestrictions and return to Stage 0 fire restrictions on Tuesday,August 15 at 8:00 a.m.

Under Stage 0 fire restrictions,

  • Smoking and use of electronic cigarettes are prohibitedin all public places within the City of Flagstaff, includingCity Parks, Open Spaces, and the Flagstaff Urban TrailSystem (FUTS) at all times.

Residents and visitors should not throw cigarettes or matches outof a moving vehicle. They may ignite dry grass on the side of theroad and become a wildfire. All outdoor fires should beextinguished properly by drowning fires with plenty of water andstirring to make sure everything is cold to the touch. Charcoalshould be dunked in water until cold. Do not throw live charcoalon the ground and leave it.

Fires should never be left unattended as sparks or embers can blowinto leaves or grass, ignite a fire, and quickly spread.

Outdoor fires of any kind for any purpose within the City ofFlagstaff are prohibited except by the authority of a writtenpermit from the Fire Department. An exception is made foroutdoor fires within inhabited premises or designated campsitesin a barbecue, outdoor fireplace, incinerator, grill, or any otheroutdoor fire appliance that are a minimum of 15 feet from anycombustible materials or non-fire- resistive vegetation.

The City cooperates with local, county, state, and federal firemanagement agencies to ensure a coordinated effort is madein fire restrictions actions. Please help the City keep ourcommunity and forests safe by following all bans andrestrictions.
