COVID-19 Funeral Assistance
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought overwhelming grief to many families. At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters. We are dedicated to helping ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the virus.
Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA is providing financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.

Call this dedicated toll-free phone number to get a COVID-19 Funeral Assistance application completed with help from FEMA’s representatives. Multilingual services will be available.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for funeral assistance, you must meet these conditions:
  • The death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
  • The death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19.
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses after January 20, 2020.
  • There is no requirement for the deceased person to have been a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien.
If you had COVID-19 funeral expenses, we encourage you to keep and gather documentation. Types of information should include:
  • An official death certificate that attributes the death directly or indirectly to COVID-19 and shows that the death occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
  • Funeral expenses documents (receipts, funeral home contract, etc.) that includes the applicant’s name, the deceased person’s name, the amount of funeral expenses, and the dates the funeral expenses happened.
  • Proof of funds received from other sources specifically for use toward funeral costs. We are not able to duplicate benefits received from burial or funeral insurance, financial assistance received from voluntary agencies, government agencies, or other sources.

Coconino County Moves Back to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
As of 6:00 a.m. on July 6, Coconino County moved back to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in coordination with the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests. This decision was made due to the cooler temperatures and recent rainfall which has reduced the risk of wildfire. Fire restrictions apply on County public lands and private property.
Prohibited activities include:
  • Campfires and open fires.
  • Fireworks.
  • Activities likely to result in combustion outdoors, such as using charcoal grills, fire rings, pellet smokers, tracer rounds, incendiary rounds/targets.

Nature of Work:
The Coconino County Health and Human Services’ Environmental Health Program provides licensing and inspection services to just over 2000 businesses throughout Coconino County to food establishments, hotels/motels, pools and spas, schools, children’s camps, medical marijuana dispensaries, trailer parks/campgrounds, body art establishments as well as special event permitting. In addition, the program responds to public nuisance complaints and conducts vector activities for the surveillance of vector borne illnesses.
The Environmental Health (EH) Specialist I conducts inspections, assists with vector activities and provides Environmental Health related education courses to the public. In addition, the EH Specialist I strives to promote public health; prevent the spread of communicable and foodborne disease; reduce the risk of preventable illnesses and communicable disease; prevent transmission of vector borne illness; inform the public on steps to prevent illness and accidental injury; offer education to employees of regulated establishments; regulates permitted and licensed establishments to assure code compliance; determine if service levels are met; and, provide services that meet the expectations of our customers.
Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the environmental health field; performs related work as assigned.

Coconino County Fair Early Bird Admission Tickets and Carnival Wristbands on Sale
Early Bird Tickets for the 2021 Coconino County Fair are now on sale! This includes admission tickets for adult, youth, and seniors, all day unlimited ride carnival wristbands, and parking. Our Early Bird deal is available online through July 31.
Bookmans in Flagstaff is also selling tickets as part of our Early Bird Deal! Same situation as above, just purchase the tickets at Bookmans on Riordan Ranch instead of online.

Azhe’é Bidziil (Strong Fathers) Program
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
The Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health is inviting adult fathers and father figures to take
part in the Azhe’é Bidziil (Strong Fathers) program in Tuba City and Chinle, Arizona (and surrounding
areas). The goal of the program is to increase economic stability of fathers and their families, promote
positive parenting and increase healthy relationships and co-parenting in Native communities. The
program will include 12 weekly workshop sessions with 8-12 fathers and will be led by two Health
Coaches. Weekly support visits are also offered to connect fathers with local resources. Recruitment and
enrollment will begin in April 2021. Participants who complete the full program are eligible for up to
$350 in gift cards.
Who is eligible?
Native fathers (or father figures such as grandfathers, uncles, etc.) who are age18 years and older and are helping to care for at least one child < 24 years old. Must live in or near Tuba City or Chinle. Participants must speak English and be able to read and complete study questionnaires

Asdzaan Be’eena: Female Pathways
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
We are asking youth girls ages 10-14 and their mothers or female caregivers to join a wellness study.
  • Both must identify as Navajo and live within 50 miles of Tuba City, AZ or Chinle, AZ.
  • Both must speak English and be able to read and complete study questionnaires.
In this study, girls and their mothers or female caregivers will participate in one of two groups. We are trying to find out if a program, Asdzaan Be’eena’ helps girls and their mothers or female caregivers improve their health. Girls and their females caregivers will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. They will either complete the Asdzaan Be’eena’ program or receive small incentives (e.g. lanyards, drawstring bags).
