Variety of events coming up in region including CCC Ed Talk on Flagstaff Consulado Movil Mexicano (Oct. 18), NAIC Immigration Forum (Oct. 18), Mexican Consulate visit at CCC (Oct. 19) and Día de los Muertos celebrations

COCONINO COUNTY — From programs featuring information from the Mexican Consulate to Día de los Muertos celebrations, a variety of events are planned in the region.

Oct. 18 — Coconino Community College invites you to the Flagstaff Consulado Movil Mexicano Ed Talk part of CCC’s ED Talks series. What is the Mexican Consulate, what do they do, and what specific services do they provide? Why are Consulate Mobile services provided in Flagstaff and other locations across the state of Arizona? Oct. 18 — The Northern Arizona Interfaith Council (NAIC) has scheduled an Immigration Forum for 6:30 p.m Friday, Oct. 18 at Killip Elementary School, 2300 E. 6th Ave., Flagstaff. There will be a discussion with local law enforcement, the Mexican Consulate and an immigration attorney around ways our immigrant neighbors can protect their rights. We will lay out our strategy which will include concrete commitments from our guests on ways they can support the immigrant community. We hope you and other institutional leaders will join us for this important meeting, in solidarity of our immigrant neighbors.

Oct. 24 — Latin American Film Series presents Nostalgia for the Light,” 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Northern Arizona University, Liberal Arts, Building 18, 705 S. Beaver St., Flagstaff. Tonight’s film is Nostalgia for the Light (Patricio Guzmán, Chile, 2010, poetic documentary that juxtaposes  two searches that take place in Chile’s arid Atacama desert: astronomers studying the origins of the universe and family members of the disappeared looking for the bodies of their loved ones, killed by the Pinochet dictatorship.) FREE for NAU students, faculty and staff. Oct. 26-27 — Celebraciones de la Gente at the Museum of Northern Arizona. Celebrate cultural traditions at the 16th Annual Celebraciones de la Gente, a lively Day of the Dead festival. Rooted in community, this weekend-long event is presented in partnership with Flagstaff’s Nuestras Raíces. Don’t miss fine art and unique crafts, music and dancing, colorful and elaborate ofrendas (altars), insightful heritage programs and Day of the Dead inspired crafts for the kids.

Oct. 30 — The Marigold Mural Project, Wed Oct 30th 11:00am – 5:00pm, Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, Tlaquepaquw336 AZ-179, Sedona, AZ 86336, USA mapJoin us on Wednesday October 30th, in our 9th year as we create another 26 foot incredible public mural in the Calle Independencia where visitors and community members can honor the loss of loved ones in their lives and connect with one another through art and public expression. Paint and brushes will be provided on site with the murals from previous years on display for your viewing and inspiration. All week the public is invited to paint on the mural.

Nov. 1 — Sugar Skull sale, for upcoming Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebrations, will be presented by Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at Banderas Craft Tacos, 11 E. Aspen Ave., Flagstaff. Presented as part of the Flagstaff First Friday Artwalk.

 

 

Nov. 2Día de los Muertos Celebration at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping VillageTlaquepaquw336 AZ-179, Sedona, AZ 86336, USA map. Join us in the courtyards of Tlaquepaque on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, for one of Tlaquepaque’s most exciting events. Dia de Los Muertos celebrates the timeless Mexican tradition of honoring friends and family who have passed on. Enjoy music, food, fire dancing and more. Public altars are set up throughout the grounds-bring objects, photos, and candles to leave as an offering. Day of the Dead costumes are strongly encouraged. This is a great event for adults and children. This event is free. Free Shuttles to and from Tlaquepaque.

Nov. 27 — David Archuleta Christmas Tour 2019, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, The Orpheum Theater, 15 W. Aspen St., Flagstaff. David Archuleta became a star when he was just 16. In 2008 more than 30 million television viewers fell in love with his angelic voice and their 44 million votes made him runner-up in Season 7 of “American Idol.” Soon after, the young Utahan had his first single “Crush,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week of its release.
