FLAGSTAFF — A record of more than 100 people took part in the annual César Chávez March and Day of Service held on March 29, 2014 in Flagstaff, AZ.

Activities began on March 28 when the Northern Arizona University College of Social & Behavioral Sciences — Civic Service Institute and MEChA Northern Arizona University presented a series of events to celebrate the life of César Chávez including a blood drive at NAU. Almost 40 students donated during the event.

The annual César Chávez March and Day of Service began on March 29 at Coconino High School, with community members and students gathering for a group photo before marching to Killip Elementary School. Participants then took part in a Day of Service at the school, picking up trash and preparing the school garden for the upcoming growing season.

Organizers and community members said this was the largest gathering in the history of the annual César Chávez march.

Activities concluded on March 31 with the scheduled discussion of the film “The Struggle in the Fields’ with Ethnic Studies Professor Samuel Barrales.
