FLAGSTAFF — The Latin American Studies Committee at Northern Arizona University will present a free sneak peak preview of the new documentary film the “State of Arizona” (2013) directed by Carlos Sandoval and Catherine Tambini at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at NAU Liberal Arts 120, Building No. 18

The documentary explores the political divisiveness of immigration policy with a focus on Arizona. The themes of immigration and race are examined throughout the film as it follows the trajectory of one of the most controversial immigration laws, SB 1070.

Both sides of the political spectrum are examined as the film plays off these themes through a variety of different characters and their response to the new bill.

“The State of Arizona” premieres on the PBS series Independent Lens, hosted by Stanley Tucci, on Monday, Jan.27;  10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings.)
