Zen Creativity: The Art of Life and Death
with Alok Hsu Kwang-han
October 7 – 9, 2022
In this workshop we engage in Zen creativity to explore the art of life and death. Using specially made Chinese brushes, ink, and paper – all provided for you to use and keep after the workshop – Alok will ask you to paint things that are impossible to paint so that you can be comfortable with not-knowing and be available to the intelligence and creativity prior to thought. In that deep intimacy, you-as-the-brush can move forth with freedom and wonder. We let go of our customary identification with who we are and who we are supposed to be and our need to know how to do it, so that we can show up for the gift of healing into death and into life which may not be so different from showing up for the creativity prior to knowing who we are and what to do.

Let’s Play and Explore Together!
with Daryl Urig
October 11 – 13, 2022
Mediums: Oils, Alkyds, Acylics – Instruction will be in Oils with brushes and painting knives. Daryl will have painting knives with him for sale if students would like to purchase from him.

Playing with paint can help us appreciate what we develop on canvas and enjoy the new processes we have learned. Focusing on the big picture, we can create beautiful form on any subject that we fancy. Any tools may be used. Design, color, simple shapes, and unique representation of any form is key.

As a painter I have explored many different avenues in my career. I am not looking for one technique to accomplish over, and over again. Isn’t that the definition of insanity? I like to break new ground as often as I can.

The workshop will cover my basic learnings over a lifetime of experimenting with paint. Highlighting design, color mixing, paint application, creative mark making, and what can we do with lighting while understanding the basics of overall image capturing to showcase personality on canvas.
