High Altitude, Drought-challenged Food Growing

Growing food at 7,000 ft with limited water resources is no mean trick. And yet, it is being done by R. Charlie Shultz. Shultz has been a pioneer in the field of integrating fish and plants for more than 20 years. He is Academic Director in the School of Trades, Technology, Sustainability, and Professional Studies at Santa Fe Community College where he teaches Controlled Environment Agriculture.

“Community-based Agriculture in Flagstaff” 
Peter Friederici hiking in Glen CanyonPeter teaches in the Sustainable Communities Program at NAU and is an accomplished writer on  science, nature, and culture. His most recent book, Beyond Climate Breakdown: Envisioning New Stories of Radical Hope, provides a narrative of hope and transformation in this time of climate disaster. Peter is leading the development of a new community urban farm on the city-owned McAllister Ranch property on the edge of Flagstaff.
