Green Party of Coconino County Qualifies for 2024 Ballot

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County’s Elections Department would like to announce that the Green Party of Coconino County has qualified as a new party for County races in the 2024 Primary and General Elections.

On November 17, 2023 the Green Pary of Coconino County filed a purported 258 petition sheets with 1,993 signatures. Upon receipt and after processing, the Coconino County Elections Department (Elections) counted 1,997 signatures submitted and rejected 42 petition signatures pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-803(B).

Elections then conducted a 20% random sample of eligible signatures pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-803(C) and selected 391 total signatures for County Recorder verification. The random sample was completed, and the petitions provided to the Recorder on November 22, 2023.

To qualify the party for the ballot, the Recorder was required to validate at least 208 total signatures, with at least a 53.3% validity rate. On December 7, 2023, the Coconino County Recorder validated 354 signatures and disqualified 37 signatures, resulting in a 90.5% validity rate.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-803(H), the estimated total number of valid signatures is 1,770, which exceeds the 1,042 minimum signatures required to gain County political party status. Therefore, the Green Party of Coconino County exceeds the minimum signature requirement and qualifies for 2024 ballot status in the County.

County residents who are currently registered with the Green Party do not need to take further action. Residents who are not registered, registered with a different political party, or have indicated no party preference must register with the Green Party in order to vote for that party’s candidates in the August 2024 Primary Election.
