Areas of Kachina Village, Forest Highlands, and Pine Del will be downgraded from “SET” (Pre-evacuation) to “READY” status

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the areas of Kachina Village, Forest Highlands, and Pine Del will be downgraded from “SET” (Pre-evacuation) to “READY” status. The zones for these areas are 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 96, 97, 98, and 99.

While conditions have improved to allow this adjustment, residents will continue to see smoke and fire activity for the foreseeable future.

The decision to downgrade to “SET” status was made in conjunction with the Forest Service’s Critical Incident Management Team. While conditions have improved to allow this adjustment, residents will continue to see smoke and fire activity for the foreseeable future

FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff City Hall offices at 211 W. Aspen Ave. will be closed on Friday, July 3 in honor of the Fourth of July holiday. City Hall offices will reopen Monday, July 6 from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

County areas in and around Coconino National Forest move to Stage 2 fire restrictions

COCONINO COUNTY — After consultation with the United States Forest Service (USFS), areas of Coconino County within the boundaries of the Coconino National Forest will move to Stage 2 fire restrictions effective Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 8 a.m.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest remains in Stage 2 and all other areas of the County will remain in Stage 1 fire restrictions.

This decision, according to Coconino County’s Wildfire Defense Ordinance, applies to all private property within, and adjacent to, the boundaries of the Coconino National Forest.

City of Flagstaff to enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on June 30

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – The City of Flagstaff will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions include the following new restrictions:

The use of fire pits and other open flame devices without an on/off switch is prohibited.
The use of charcoal and wood-fired BBQs are prohibited throughout the city, including at private residences and campgrounds.
The use of propane, gas, and pellet BBQs/ smokers with an on-off switch are still allowed throughout the city.

Grand Canyon National Park (GRCA) — APS Potential Public Safety Power Shutoff Resources

Arizona Public Service (APS) has announced the potential for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) due to forecasted critical fire weather conditions. While no outage has been confirmed at this time, Grand Canyon National Park and APS are providing community resources to help residents prepare should a PSPS be implemented.

Board of Supervisors approves budget for fiscal year 2027

“Knowing that there is uncertainty in the economy and some federal funding is at risk, the FY26 budget outlook remains cautious,” Coconino County Manager Andy Bertelsen said. “Each year we strive to deliver the best services to Coconino County residents while working within our financial means. APS may initiate Public Safety Power Shutoff in the Flagstaff area Saturday, June 27

FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff has been informed that Arizona Public Service (APS) may initiate a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in parts of the Flagstaff area Saturday, June 27 as early as 9 a.m. Some areas on the east side of Flagstaff may lose power during this PSPS event. Customers who are impacted have been directly notified by APS. If your home is impacted, you should begin preparing for 12-24 hours without power.

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County has a new public-facing performance dashboard designed to provide residents with transparent, real-time insight into the County’s progress toward achieving the Board of Supervisors’ strategic plan, entitled Coconino Forward: Where Vision Meets Action.

In March 2025, the Board of Supervisors approved an updated mission, vision, values and a five-year strategic plan following an extensive strategic planning process. The plan established priorities in six key areas: Public Lands/Cultural and Natural Resources; Organizational/Fiscal Health; Economic Development/Vitality; Community Vitality/Arts/Culture; Public Safety/Emergency Preparedness; and Health and Human Services/Public Health.

Grand Canyon National Park to lift summer trail closures for Transcanyon Waterline Replacement Project

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – Grand Canyon National Park will
lift trail closures related to the Transcanyon Waterline Replacement Project at 7 a.m. Friday, June 26, five days ahead of
schedule.

The closures are being lifted following the completion of reconstruction work on the River Trail, which was damaged by a rockfall during work associated with the Transcanyon Waterline Replacement Project. The rockfall required additional geologic hazard assessments, new design features and engineering work before the trail could be rebuilt and this portion of the project could be completed.

The City of Flagstaff seeks proposals for large-scale, three-dimensional (3D) artworks for the 2027/2028 Multicultural County Park Sculpture Exhibition. The exhibition features five sculptures, existing or newly created, that reflect diverse cultural expressions including Indigenous, Black, and Latinx art. Selected artworks can advance essential perspectives and narratives and will invite interaction, conversation, and appreciation.

Note: Applications will be accepted exclusively through OpenGov. Artists must register on OpenGov before submitting an application.

Coconino County expanding Stage 1 fire restrictions

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County will expand fire restrictions in coordination with the Kaibab National Forest. Stage 1 restrictions will take effect on Thursday, June 11, at 8 a.m. for all unincorporated areas within the boundaries of the Kaibab National Forest. All other areas of the County will remain in Stage 1 fire restrictions.

During Stage 1 restrictions igniting, building, maintaining or using a fire fueled by combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes and/or coal is strictly prohibited, except within a developed site. Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or a developed site. The use of tracer or incendiary rounds of ammunition or explosive targets is also strictly prohibited.

Momentum Aerial in Flagstaff announces call for auditions for Halloween show — The Book of Shadows: Noctume

FLAGSTAFF — Momentum Aerial is putting out a call for auditions for our Halloween Show, The Book of Shadows: Nocturne. Auditions are open until July 20th and we want YOU to submit. Solos, duets, trios and group numbers are all encouraged to apply.

Audition Submission Period and Requirements: Auditions can be submitted at any time between 5/20/26 – 7/20/26. We will contact you with audition results by July 23rd 2026. Call backs (if needed) will be done via video submission. All submissions will be weighted equally. You may submit work in progress for your audition. It is not expected that you finish an entire piece for the audition. Auditions should be a minimum of one minute in length and a maximum of five minutes.

Firefighters responding to remote lightning fire south of Sedona

FLAGSTAFF — Firefighters are responding to the lightning-caused Mundy Fire, located in remote terrain about 5 miles south of Sedona.

Resources responding to the roughly quarter-acre incident include a helicopter, two engines and miscellaneous overhead.

Firefighters are responding to the Mundy Fire with a direct extinguishment strategy, and a goal of confining the Mundy Fire to as small a perimeter as possible as quickly as possible.

Stage 2 fire restrictions on North Kaibab Ranger District to begin Thursday, June 18

FREDONIA — Due to increased fire danger and for public safety, the Kaibab National Forest will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions on the North Kaibab Ranger District beginning 6 a.m. Thursday, June 18. 

Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit the following:

Building, maintaining, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, including charcoal, coal, and briquettes, even in developed recreation sites. This includes smudge pots, pellet grills, and wood stoves. The only exception is using a stove or grill that is solely fueled by pressurized liquid petroleum or pressurized liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuels.

New program helps homeowners go solar, lower energy bills

COCONINO COUNTY — As part of our sustainability initiative, Coconino County announces Switch Together, a group buying program for solar installations. Switch Together uses a group buying model to help residents save money on home solar installations. The most recent auction secured a discount of 17 percent, which translates to an average discount of $5,200. The program is supported in partnership with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors. Switch Together makes rooftop solar installations more affordable, while also offering solar education through online resources and in-person events.

City of Flagstaff — Fourth, Lockett and Cedar Roundabout to close on Friday, June 19 for final striping

National Park Service (NPS) — 2025 Grand Canyon Drinking Water Quality Report now available

The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also called the annual drinking water quality report, is a document that community water systems are required to deliver to their customers each year under the Safe Drinking Water Act. It summarizes the quality of the water delivered over the previous calendar year, including the source of the water, the levels of any detected contaminants compared to federal standards, and any violations that occurred.

The report gives consumers clear, accessible information about what is in their tap water and how it measures up to EPA safety standards, so you can make informed decisions and understand any potential risks. It also holds water systems accountable by putting monitoring results and compliance status in front of the people they serve.

Sedona Arts Center — Kids Summer Art Camps at Sedona Arts Center

Kids Make Your Own Dry Erase Board! for Ages 7-13

June 19, 2026 – 9am-12pm — $50

Turn clay into something you can use every day! In this hands-on workshop, young artists (ages 7–13) will design and build their own reusable dry erase board using slab-building techniques. Students will shape a custom clay frame and create a smooth glazed surface perfect for notes, drawings, and reminders. All materials included. No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to get a little messy. Pieces will be kiln-fired and ready for pickup later.

City of Flagstaff transitioning from residential curbside glass collection to drop-off locations

FLAGSTAFF — On July 1, the City of Flagstaff will be transitioning from the residential curbside glass collection program to a drop-off model. Six drop-off locations are now available City-wide for residents to deposit glass products to be recycled. This change is being implemented to optimize collection operations and improve operational efficiency. There are no changes for commercial customers at this time.

The Beautification, Arts & Sciences Program is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented professional to manage public art collections, beautification assets, and community-focused public art projects throughout the City. This position oversees project development and maintenance, coordinates with internal and external partners, conducts community outreach, and supports program initiatives through project management, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. This summer, is offering eight weeks of mountain bike camps at multiple locations throughout. With more camp weeks and expanded locations, there are more opportunities than ever for young riders to get outside, build skills, and have an unforgettable summer on two wheels.

Campers will spend their days building confidence, endurance, and mountain bike skills while having a blast with friends. Camps include trail rides, bike-focused games, STEAM-based activities, and hands-on trail stewardship experiences. We offer both full-day and half-day options for a variety of age groups, making it easy to find the right fit for your rider. We also have rotating location options, where kids will meet their coaches in different trail locations throughout Flagstaff.

National Park Service approves plan to modernize water system serving the North Rim and Inner Canyon at Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. –  The National Park Service (NPS) approved a plan today to upgrade the water system that supplies and delivers water between the North Rim developed area and Cottonwood Campground in Grand Canyon National Park. The current water system is old, often breaks down, and requires frequent repairs in difficult and sometimes hazardous conditions.  

NPS Intermountain Regional Director Bert Frost signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the North Rim and Roaring Springs Water System Improvements project. This work is part of a project to rehabilitate the North Rim and Roaring Springs Utility Systems funded by the Great American Outdoors Act Legacy Restoration Fund.

Grand Canyon National Park launches Conservation K-9 pilot project to reduce human-wildlife conflicts

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. — Grand Canyon National Park is welcoming a new, four-legged member to the park’s wildlife management team. “Blue,” a trained Conservation K-9, will work alongside park wildlife staff to help reduce human-wildlife conflicts in busy areas on the South Rim. 

The Conservation K-9 Pilot Project, now in its first year of a 3-year pilot, uses dogs to encourage animals who are habituated to humans, such as Grand Canyon’s elk and bighorn sheep, to avoid developed areas where interactions with visitors can be unsafe to both visitors and wildlife.

New program launches to help Flagstaff homeowners go solar, lower energy bills

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff has launched the Northern Arizona Switch Together Co-op, a group-buying program for solar installations that has secured a 17% discount, translating to an average price reduction of $5,200. Homeowners and small businesses may also add-on battery storage and electric vehicle chargers.

“The City of Flagstaff is helping households and small businesses lower their energy bills by going solar,” said City of Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett. “By making the ‘Switch Together,’ neighbors can leverage the power of bulk buying for discounts on solar installations, battery storage, and EV chargers.”

Grand Canyon Weekly Wrap-up: May 25-29, 2026

A planned water outage is scheduled in the inner canyon from June 4–11 to support critical Transcanyon Waterline infrastructure work. Crews will tie in a new section of piping along the River Trail and complete additional work at the Havasupai Gardens pumphouse.

The outage will impact potable water service at Phantom Ranch, the Phantom Ranch Delta Restroom, Bright Angel Campground, Boat Beach, Cottonwood Campgrou`nd, Manzanita Rest Area, and Manzanita Day Use Area. Havasupai Gardens, as well as the 3-Mile and 1.5-Mile resthouses, will continue to have water available during this period.
