City of Flagstaff — Federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans available to businesses impacted by Pocket Fire

FLAGSTAFF — Coconino County received a Declaration of Economic Injury from the Small Business Administration (SBA) which opens the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program to businesses impacted by the Pocket Fire.

The EIDL program provides 30-year loans with an interest rate as low as four percent. Principal and interest payments are not required in the first year of the loan to help businesses survive the loss of tourism. The program is available to all businesses in Coconino County and Yavapai County, as well as neighboring Gila, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave and Navajo counties, San Juan and Kane counties in Utah and Tribal Nations.

City of Flagstaff to begin the removal and installation of a new sheet roof for City Hall

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — Starting September 2, 2026 the City of Flagstaff will begin replacing the City Hall roof. This capital renewal project was identified to protect the long-term need for a weather-tight building envelope and represents a sound investment in maintaining an existing city asset. Work is expected to conclude by November 16, 2026.

During removal and installation, residents and visitors may experience temporary noise and minor traffic disruptions around City Hall. Oliver Roofing and the City will implement safety measures to reduce impacts on nearby residents and businesses.

FLAGSTAFF — A virtual neighborhood meeting will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss proposed land use applications for approximately 293.85 acres located northeast of Pine Canyon Estates along the J.W. Powell Boulevard alignment. The proposal includes adoption of a Specific Plan to guide development of a nature-oriented, master-planned community that may include housing, retail, dining, and lodging opportunities. The applications also include related zoning map amendments and a Minor Regional Plan Amendment to relocate a future suburban activity center.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — The City of Flagstaff, in partnership with MetroPlan, Coconino County, Mountain Line, Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), is developing the Flagstaff Safe Streets Master Plan (SSMP) — a shared vision for how people move throughout the Flagstaff region today and into the future.

The plan will examine the entire transportation system — including streets, sidewalks, bikeways, trails, transit, and regional connections — to make travel safer, easier, more accessible, and better connected for everyone.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – Starting Monday, August 31, the City of Flagstaff (City) and their contractor, Eagle Mountain Construction, will begin the Meade Lane Utility Improvements Project. The project, which runs along a section of Meade Lane between Highway 180/Fort Valley Road and the Rio de Flag bridge, consists of: improvements to the stormwater infrastructure, removal and replacement of aging water and sewer utility infrastructure, improvements to the FUTS trail, concrete curb, gutter and driveway entrance repairs and full roadway reconstruction. The project is scheduled to be complete in summer 2027 and is partially funded by the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program from the Federal Emergency Management Administration through the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office and Sustainability Commission announce the opening of applications for the Flagstaff Sustainability Grants Program. The annual funding opportunity, will accept applications from Aug. 15 through Sept. 30, 2026. The competitive grant program provides funding up to $7,500 for sustainability projects that strengthen community partnerships and environmental stewardship within Flagstaff city limits. Eligible applicants include community groups, nonprofits, individuals, and businesses with projects that address key sustainability priorities. Priority focus areas include energy, community health and climate resilience, food, transportation, and waste reduction.

City of Flagstaff seeks community input on proposed Spruce Wash Wedge artwork

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — The City of Flagstaff invites community input on a landmark three-dimensional artwork for installation at East Cedar Avenue and North West Street, as part of the Spruce Wash Wedge Detention Project. The proposed 13-foot sculpture features a tassel-eared Abert squirrel, an icon of Flagstaff, and a species and subspecies native to Flagstaff and the region.

An online survey, open now through September 3, is available to provide feedback on the preliminary design. Through a series of questions, participants can share how well the sculpture connects to the site, whether it serves as a welcoming feature for the area and offer any additional thoughts regarding materials, color or design. The artist team of Haddad|Drugan, in collaboration with the City of Flagstaff’s Beautification, Arts & Sciences program, will review all survey submissions, identifying possible refinements and address any community concerns.

City of Flagstaff — Pedestrian improvements to begin along Fort Valley Road

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — Starting Monday, August 17, the City of Flagstaff (City) in partnership with Mountain Line and their contractor, Kinney Construction Services, will begin pedestrian crossing improvements in multiple locations along Fort Valley Road. Pedestrian crossing installation at the Fort Valley Road and Anderson Road/Whiting Road intersection and the Fort Valley Road and Meade Lane intersection will be complete in 2026. Work at the Fort Valley Road and Forest Avenue intersection will be completed at a later time.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — The City of Flagstaff and ParkFlag will implement new parking rates starting Saturday, August 1. The hourly parking rate is increasing from $1 an hour to $2 dollars an hour. These parking rates were approved by the Flagstaff City Council following a comprehensive public process. The rate adjustments will help ensure a financially sustainable parking system while supporting enhanced services throughout the downtown parking district.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – The City of Flagstaff has lifted current fire restrictions and returned to Stage 0 fire restrictions, effective 6 a.m. on Monday, July 20.

Under Stage 0 fire restrictions,

Smoking and use of electronic cigarettes are prohibited in all public places within the City of Flagstaff, including City Parks, Open Spaces, and the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS) at all times.

FLAGSTAFF — On July 3, 2026, the City of Flagstaff received confirmation from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)/ Enforcement and Removal Operations that the agency has secured office space in Flagstaff. ICE stated that the purpose of the Flagstaff Sub-Office is to expand enforcement efforts in the state of Arizona. No additional details on the timing or scope of planned operations were shared by ICE.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – As work continues on the City’s annual Road Repair and Street Safety project, asphalt removal and paving is scheduled in neighborhoods throughout the City in late June and July. Residents on the streets listed below should be prepared for delays and use caution when traveling through the work areas due to the presence of heavy equipment and workers. The City’s contractors will coordinate directly with impacted residents on driveway access and other potential impacts.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – The City of Flagstaff will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions include the following new restrictions:

The use of fire pits and other open flame devices without an on/off switch is prohibited.
The use of charcoal and wood-fired BBQs are prohibited throughout the city, including at private residences and campgrounds.
The use of propane, gas, and pellet BBQs/ smokers with an on-off switch are still allowed throughout the city.

Greater Flagstaff Region seeks public input for its Community Wildfire Protection Plan Update

FLAGSTAFF — There will be a virtual public meeting on Thursday June 25, from 6 – 7 p.m. to solicit public input for the Greater Flagstaff Region Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) update. Attendees should register online in advance. The CWPP is a community-driven planning effort that will assess wildfire risk across the Greater Flagstaff Region and identify strategies to improve wildfire preparedness, mitigation, response coordination, and recovery.

Six drop-off locations are now available City-wide for residents to deposit glass products to be recycled. This change is being implemented to optimize collection operations and improve operational efficiency. There are no changes for commercial customers at this time.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – Starting the week of June 1, the City of Flagstaff, in partnership with Mountain Line and their contractor, Kinney Construction Services, will begin pedestrian crossing improvements in multiple locations along Soliere Avenue. These improvements are part of the “First Mile, Last Mile Initiative” which aims to add safe pedestrian infrastructure near Mountain Line bus stops throughout the City. Most of these crossings will feature a pedestrian refuge median, meaning pedestrians will only need to cross one lane of traffic at a time.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff has launched the Northern Arizona Switch Together Co-op, a group-buying program for solar installations that has secured a 17% discount, translating to an average price reduction of $5,200. Homeowners and small businesses may also add-on battery storage and electric vehicle chargers.

“The City of Flagstaff is helping households and small businesses lower their energy bills by going solar,” said City of Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett. “By making the ‘Switch Together,’ neighbors can leverage the power of bulk buying for discounts on solar installations, battery storage, and EV chargers.”

Flagstaff City Council approves 2026 Community Development Block Grant Funding

FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff City Council has approved the City’s 2026 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, authorizing approximately $881,000 in federal funding for projects and programs that support homelessness response, neighborhood improvements, and community resilience. The funding allocations include investments in shelter operations, domestic violence services, park reconstruction, resilience hub improvements, and ADA accessibility upgrades that will benefit low- and moderate-income residents throughout Flagstaff.
